Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – The Runaki programme announces that pre-Runaki debt will be placed on monthly installments of up to 24 months without discount. The first installment will be added to the September cycle bill, which is expected to be issued in October.

Monthly installments give subscribers who did not participate in the recent exceptional discount of up to 50% an opportunity to clear old debt over long-term plans. The monthly installments will be added to the monthly Runaki bills and will need to be paid within the standard 50-day bill payment window.

The long installment plans are designed to reduce the burden on subscribers, in particular households, and are shown in the below table, subject to minimum monthly installment amounts.

Nearly 800,000 subscribers cleared old debt under the 50% discount from 3 August to 10 September. As a result, more than 1.2 out of 2 million subscribers across Kurdistan are now debt-free, including 1 million households. More than half of remaining subscribers hold less than 300,000 IQD in old debt.

To date under Runaki, the KRG has given 360 billion IQD in discounts to electricity subscribers, of which 300 billion IQD to the 800,000 subscribers who benefited from the recent discount on old debt.

To date, around 90% of the Kurdistan Region enjoys 24-hour electricity through Runaki.

Based on data from Runaki, around 80% of households, and in particular low-income households, continue to pay less for electricity than they did previously.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced the Runaki programme in October 2024. The KRG Council of Ministers unanimously adopted the programme and new progressive tariffs in May 2025.

The KRG is planning to deliver 24-hour electricity to every home and business in Kurdistan by the end of 2026.
