Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – The KRG Council of Ministers approved new electricity tariffs under Runaki Programme on Wednesday
Runaki is a national initiative by the KRG to provide 24-hour power across the Kurdistan Region by the end of 2026.
The new tariffs are designed to ensure that 80% of households across the Kurdistan Region will pay less than the current combined cost of private diesel generators and national power, in particular low-income families and the vulnerable.
These progressive tariffs give citizens greater control over their electricity bills and help them save money. On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers also appropriated up to $200 million to provide additional support for households, including seasonal discounts. The KRG will announce the initiatives soon.
Household electricity prices under the Runaki project are calculated in slabs as follows. It is important to note that 64% of households across the Kurdistan Region currently fall within the first two slabs:
| Residential tariffs | Price in IQD |
| 1-400 kWh | 72 |
| 401-800 kWh | 108 |
| 801-1200 kWh | 175 |
| 1201-1600 kWh | 265 |
| 1600+ kWh | 350 |
The Council of Ministers also passed new tariffs for other subscriber categories:
| Tariffs of other segments | Price in IQD |
| Commercial | 185 |
| Heavy industries | 125 |
| Industrials | 160 |
| State | 160 |
| Agricultural | 60 |
Subscribers outside the Runaki programme will continue to pay the old tariff. The KRG intends to accelerate the rollout of the program to ensure citizens pay less and have peace of mind.
