Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) — The KRG Ministry of Electricity has completed major repairs at a substation in northwest of Erbil, significantly reducing power cuts to over 50,000 citizens, including in many areas already on the Runaki programme.

Due to a technical issue in one of the transformers at the Park electricity substation, several areas under the Runaki programme in Erbil experienced electricity outages, impacting more than 50,000 citizens. In response, the Ministry of Electricity promptly launched an investigation and took immediate action to resolve the issue. Maintenance teams have now successfully repaired the faulty transformer at a cost of IQD 100 million.

The repair and maintenance efforts in the Park substation will reduce outages in the following neighborhoods: Sarbasti, Naznaz, Park View, Bakhtiari, Naz City, Dream City, English Village, Empire, Airport, Maroda and parts of Ainkawa.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced the Runaki programme in October 2024 to deliver 24-hour electricity to every home and business by the end of 2026. The KRG Council of Ministers unanimously approved the national program on 14 May.

Today, over 2 million citizens already enjoy 24-hour electricity under Runaki.
