What is Kilowatt hours? (kWh)

kWh is a measure of how much electricity someone uses over a certain time.

kWh Model

Unlike the Amps model, kWh model will make sure that each customer is being billed for the exact amount of electricity he is using.

Older Models

In the older models, people are charged for the max Amps that is used regardless of the actual amount of kWh the customer is using.

KWH Calculation.

A 0.05 kW lamp used 10 hours daily for 30 days consumes 15 kWh/month.

Consumption (kWh) = Power (KW) × Hours/Day × Days/Month

= 0.05 × 10 × 30 = 15 kWh.

Benefits of Responsible Usage

Reduce your consumption and hence your bill at the end of the month by following the steps below.

Smart Usage Habits

  • Turn off appliances when not in use
  • Avoid running appliances at full capacity all the time

Energy Efficiency Tips

  • Lower your fridge’s cooling level slightly to save energy without affecting quality.

Heaters

  • Turn off the heater when you leave the room.
  • Turning off your heater for 1 hour per day decreases your consumption by 45 KWH per month.

Lamps

  • Turn off lights when you leave the room to save energy and reduce electricity costs.
  • Favor the use of LED lights instead of traditional bulbs—replacing just one bulb can save between 14 and 18 kWh per month.

Boilers

  • Turn off your boiler when hot water is not needed.
  • Turning off your boiler for 1 hour per day decreases your consumption by 60 to 90 KWH per month

AC

  • Close all doors and windows when the AC is on.
  •  Favor the use of a cooler instead of an AC to save more energy
